Victoria ISDโs two-way Dual Language program gives students the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate and academically successful while building skills that can serve them well beyond the classroom.
In Victoria ISD, Elevating Excellence means creating opportunities for students to grow, achieve and develop skills that prepare them for their future. Through the districtโs two-way Dual Language program, students learn in both English and Spanish while building strong academic foundations.
The Dual Language program brings together students from English-speaking and Spanish-speaking backgrounds in the same learning environment, where instruction is provided in both languages. Students learn with and from one another as they develop proficiency in English and Spanish while mastering grade-level academic content.
The goal extends beyond simply learning a second language. Dual Language is designed to help students become bilingual and biliterate while supporting high levels of academic achievement and an appreciation for different cultures and perspectives.
Building Skills for the Classroom and Beyond
Learning in two languages challenges students to think, communicate and make connections in new ways. As they progress through the program, students strengthen their ability to read, write, listen and speak academically in both English and Spanish.
These benefits can extend well beyond elementary school. Bilingualism and biliteracy can strengthen communication and problem-solving skills while preparing students to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.
Students are also able to build upon the language and experiences they bring to the classroom. Spanish-speaking students continue developing their home language while strengthening their English proficiency, while English-speaking students have the opportunity to develop proficiency in Spanish.
This collaborative learning environment helps students see bilingualism as an asset while learning alongside classmates with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Who Can Apply?
VISDโs two-way Dual Language program is available to current kindergarten students, giving families the opportunity to begin their childโs bilingual and biliterate learning experience when they enter kindergarten.
Families interested in the program submit an application during the districtโs annual Dual Language application window. The application period for the 2026โ27 school year closes Aug. 31.
Families interested in applying are encouraged to learn more about the Dual Language program, the campus where it is offered, program expectations, and the opportunities it can provide their child.
